When trying to understand a mathematical concept, when was the last time you said “So THAT’S how this works!”

These web pages will reflect the problems some students have learning mathematical concepts, and what I have used to help them understand those concepts. I have great delight when I see the student have an aha! moment.

An aha! moment is “a moment of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition, or comprehension.” – Merriam-Webster

When trying to understand a student’s frustration with mathematics, I have had aha! moments also. The reason for these aha! moments is that I knew the math but I did not fully understand it until I had to explain it to a student. I learn something every time I substitute teach. As Albert Einstein said “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” ‘Nuff said.

“Any fool can know. The point is to understand.”

Albert Einstein
